Somebody’s got a case of the Mondays
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 06/23/08 at 05:06:15 amI can’t say I haven’t fantasized about doing this, I like how the guy goes absolutely insane.
Returning back to life, hopefully soon.
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 06/19/08 at 03:06:49 pmThese past few weeks I’ve barely had a chance to do anything outside of work. I miss hanging out on my favorite websites, I miss chatting with friends, but more then anything I miss blogging.
The new SCI Broadband.com successfully launched yesterday afternoon in-between the meetings we had going all day. This project was a chapter of my immediate career that I’m proud to have finally finished. The company needed a new web presence - in fact, “needed” is an understatement. While my revamped design could be better, I think it turned out nice and it will be a solid addition to my little portfolio.
Just because I finished this website doesn’t mean I can return to how it used to be. The list of projects at work that need to get finished this year is endless. Just to explain how endless it is, I started messing around with website ideas a couple months after I started with the company. That was almost 2 years ago.
I’m trying hard to efficiently manage my time so I can fit in more things that I want to do, I need more time for myself and my own projects. For example, some of the things I’d like to accomplish in the next month on this website alone include a brand new design and a couple big product reviews. If I plan to get this stuff done I need to figure out where my time is going and how I can reclaim some of it.
Dammit Wednesday: Get it done.
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 06/11/08 at 09:06:00 pmWhat a week. I’ve been completely disconnected from most everything to ensure I’m getting stuff done at work. After going on almost 2 years of pushing the need for a new company website I have gotten a full green light on the project. The new website is something I want to work on but because we need it online in such a short amount of time I’ve essentially spent every free moment coding and designing the company’s brand new web presence. Even as I’m typing this on my bed, at 10:45 PM, with my hands falling asleep — I’m flipping back and forth between Word, Photoshop, FTP, and the bombing of IMs I’m getting from the people I haven’t spoke to in a week.
So my work related rant this Dammit Wednesday is projects and their tendency to consume life.

Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 06/07/08 at 11:06:17 pmWhy is it that Murphy’s Law , that is if anything can go wrong, it will go wrong, applies to almost every situation in life?
This past week I’ve gathered a little collection of checks and I’ve been planning to deposit them all this morning. I’ve been waiting for one more that was slated to arrive in the mail sometime this past week. The check didn’t show, so naturally I head down to my bank, which is half an hour away, and deposit what I have. By the time I get home sure enough the additional check I was expecting was in today’s mail. *sigh*
2008 Hooters Swimsuit Contest
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 05/25/08 at 02:05:27 pmIt’s been a very busy holiday weekend for me but I wanted to mention one of the many highlights and share some of the many photos I had taken. My birthday was on Thursday and part of my celebration was spent with some friends at Treasure Island Resort & Casino near Red Wing, Minnesota. They were hosting the 2008 Mall of America Hooters Swimsuit Competition and my friends made arrangements to get us VIP passes and a hotel room for the night. In addition to the hotel room, the VIP package scored us free drink coupons for the bar, dinner at the buffet, and some blackjack money.
I can only barely express how much of a blast I had but the photos from the swimsuit contest should give you an idea. You can see all of the pictures I took of the beautiful Hooters girls on Flickr (probably NSFW).
They claim they are making my future easier.
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 05/18/08 at 10:05:17 pmI opened a SEP-IRA with ING last year. Since the account was established and I started investing I receive at least 1 letter a week with all sorts of financial information that apparently may or may not relate to the services I actually have with them. I really wouldn’t know as most of the stuff is over my head, it’s to the point where I’m barely glancing at the letters before they are filed away or shredded.
This past week ING has brought the paper wasting to a new level. I received a package in the mail and when I seen it was from ING I could only groan and try not to slam my head into the wall. What could they possibly be sending me now?!
My Variable Annuity Account C Annual Report, of course! I’m glad I received it because if I hadn’t I’d be completely lost. In reality I have no idea what this book is about or why I need it, perhaps it’s my extremely novice experience with investing and retirement plans but I flipped through it and it might as well have been in another language entirely. Sure, this book could be important to some but am I really on the list of people that should find this information useful? Really?
Today, Blogger’s Unite for Human Rights.
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 05/15/08 at 07:05:39 pmYou may have noticed the banner on my front page this past week for the Bloggers Unite initiative. Blog Catalog and Amnesty International have teamed up to harness the power of the blogosphere in efforts to make the world a better place. Today, 1000’s of bloggers around the world will be promoting the project or writing about the different human rights issues.
I figured instead of blogging about a topic I don’t know a whole lot about I would reserve the evening to educate myself on the many human rights issues that are occurring around the world. Amnesty International has put together a page featuring a listing of devastating human rights problems that are complete with detailed information, articles, and goals for each issue, I encourage everyone to take a look.
