2008 Hooters Swimsuit Contest

It’s been a very busy holiday weekend for me but I wanted to mention one of the many highlights and share some of the many photos I had taken. My birthday was on Thursday and part of my celebration was spent with some friends at Treasure Island Resort & Casino near Red Wing, Minnesota. They were hosting the 2008 Mall of America Hooters Swimsuit Competition and my friends made arrangements to get us VIP passes and a hotel room for the night. In addition to the hotel room, the VIP package scored us free drink coupons for the bar, dinner at the buffet, and some blackjack money.

I can only barely express how much of a blast I had but the photos from the swimsuit contest should give you an idea. You can see all of the pictures I took of the beautiful Hooters girls on Flickr (probably NSFW).

Happy St. Patty’s Day!

St. Patrick’s Day has come once again, and although I’m not as Irish as some I do respect the tradition and heritage behind the holiday. Last year I wrote about my interests in the history of St. Patrick’s Day and I posted a link to some beautiful photography of Irish pastimes. This year I wanted to comment on traditional (or at least stereotypical) Irish cuisine.

My sources tell me that I’m supposed to be part Irish, while I don’t know how true this is my mother insists on preparing a traditional corn beef and cabbage dinner every year on St. Patrick’s Day. Unfortunately I’m not a big of a fan of corn beef or boiled cabbage but I do enjoy the fact that she goes through the trouble to make it anyways.

On Saturday night I went to Bennigan’s for dinner which for those who don’t know is a popular Irish themed restaurant chain that apparently takes St. Patrick’s Day very seriously as they were already sporting the crazy hats and decorations. We had the Guinness glazed popcorn shrimp as an appetizer and then I had a Guinness glazed bacon cheeseburger which despite the Guinness brand name being the only Irish aspect of the entire meal, it was very delicious.

Speaking of Bennigan’s, I’m sure you noticed Fergus the leprechaun at the top of this entry by now and I think the following video is required viewing for anyone interested in a mixture leprechauns and martial arts –

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone!

Longest 3 days ever.

So, Christmas is done, it always comes and goes so quick and it’s always depressing when it’s all over. I guess the most depressing part is the slam back into reality with having to work the day after. I kept telling myself that it’s only a 3 day week, only 3 short days and I can crawl back into my Christmas fantasy and play with all of my new toys and eat the now aging Christmas goodies and leftovers. Longest 3 days ever.

I did have a great Christmas though; it was a lot of fun to spend time with the family and even more fun to see everyone unwrap things that they really wanted, including myself. I posted a list of my haul on DIC which you can see Here. But, the big enchilada is the new camera, the Canon Powershot A650 IS. I had the camera on my wish list but I wasn’t actually expecting to get it, I planned to buy it myself after Christmas or whatever. I think I’m still stunned, it’s an amazing camera and after I’ve had some time to play with it I’d like to muster up a review.

I also received a few new computer games including The Orange Box, The Office, Call of Duty 4, and World in Conflict. The problem is that WiC and CoD4 are extremely demanding games and neither my new XPS notebook nor my desktop can run them to my standards. I ordered some more RAM off Newegg for my desktop and I’m thinking about picking up a brand new graphics card this weekend but I’m still not sure if that will be enough. I have a feeling that I’ll end up purchasing a new desktop by 2009.

Just 9 more hours and the 3 days will be over with.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I doubt I’ll be blogging before the big day, so I just wanted to wish a very Merry Christmas to all of my friends, family, readers, and people passing through my little corner of the internet. Tomorrow I’ll be heading out to spend time with my family this holiday season. I still can’t believe that in just a few hours it will already be Christmas Eve!

Anyway, I still have gifts to wrap and things to pack. Happy Holidays Everyone!

In 2007…

It may not be New Year’s just yet, but I came across this hilarious video and I had to share it with everyone.

Don’t send a lame Holiday eCard. Try JibJab Sendables!

Give the gift of web hosting.

Jon Lee just blogged about this new offer from MediaTemple but I thought I would mention it here as it is a good deal if you looking to get some premium web hosting for yourself or as a gift for someone this holiday season. Right now MediaTemple is offering ‘The Hosting Card’ which is the Grid-Service Lite plan and a free domain name for only $95.00 a year, that works out to just under $8.00 a month! Grid-Service Lite was a plan offered to some of the Shared Server (SS) customers when the Grid platform migration went down in 2006. I’m actually surprised that MediaTemple is actually marketing (gs) Lite as it was sort of designed to be a “grandfathered in” deal.

I know I brag about MediaTemple all the time, but it’s all for good reason. They might not be ultra-cheap like some of the competition but the service and support is rock solid and very reliable. You can get more info on what (gs) Lite has to offer and grab yourself one of these new hosting cards by Clicking Here.

However, be sure to check out some of the other plans MediaTemple has to offer as they have a solution to suit every webmaster’s needs.

Wishlistr: All of the items I desire listed in one convenient spot.

Remember when your parents would ask for your Christmas Wish list in like October so they could plan out all of their holiday shopping in advance? Well at least that’s how it was in my family and still is to this day…

Making my Christmas wish list every year used to be a big deal, I would get my favorite toy catalog and go through and circle everything that I wanted with a highlighter. If you fast forward to now, it’s essentially the same deal. The only difference is now I normally go to all of my favorite online retailers such as Amazon and ThinkGeek and I use their built-in list features. The problem with doing it this way is that I may want 1 or 2 items from one retailer and a couple from another and pretty soon I have all of these lists on different websites that I have to send people links to. Lame.

Wishlistr is a new service I stumbled upon yesterday that allows you to create wish lists that link to products on other websites, so you can link to say something on Target.com and another thing at Best Buy and so on. Wishlistr also has the ability to import lists from Amazon and Del.icio.us Bookmarks. The website is mostly Ajax based so creating the list and sorting the items was super quick and easy.

Check it out for yourself, you can find my new *official* holiday wish list at http://www.wishlistr.com/markodageek

I like gifts… Just sayin’

The first Monday of November and here in Minnesota, winter has begun.

It’s been snowing most of the day today, the blazing Pre-winter temperatures of 35F have kept it melting instantly as it hit the ground but I wouldn’t be surprised to find a nice little dusting by morning. With Halloween over with and Thanksgiving right around the corner the Holiday season is quickly approaching. Wal-Mart has started their 2 month marathon of the same 20-or-so Holiday song loop that will surely drive employee’s and die hard shoppers clinically insane.

As for me? What better project could I start working on than updating all of my online wishlists.
