Monticello, Minnesota: Sticking it to The Man

A tech story from Minnesota was featured on Ars Technica this week when Bridgewater, a subsidiary of Illinois based Telephone and Data Systems (TDS Telecom) announced that they we’re filing a lawsuit against The City of Monticello. The city was trying to put in a fiber optic network of its own rather than encouraging the local Telco to build one. Shortly after TDS filed the lawsuit they quickly began construction on their fiber optic network claiming that they were only trying to look out for the tax payers.

They may have lost the battle, but it proves that even a large community like Monticello is able to stand up against a monopoly. Read the article here.
