100,000 Spam Caught by Akismet

September 12th, 2008 by Markus Langenfeld

Every time I write an entry or log into my WordPress interface I go through my comment spam quick and empty out the queue. So the numbers of messages you see in the above screenshot were accumulated in less than 24 hours, and the total you see there is how many spam messages Akismet has caught and effectively deleted from my blog since it was installed, over 3 years ago.

By the time I’m done writing this and I get around to posting the entry Akismet will have caught over 100,000 spam comments on my blog. Granted there are a decent number of false positives, which is why I sift through many of the comments it removes, Akismet is very powerful and it’s good at what it does, in fact I couldn’t imagine running a blog without it.

Keep ‘em coming, here’s to another 100k.

    Bug

I’ve been using Peter’s Anti-Spam forever now…the only reason I prefer it over Akismet is because I can force my visitors to type dirty things in order to comment *chuckle*

Bug!! I haven’t seen you around in a long time.

I’ve been looking into a captcha thing for comments, I’ll check out that plug-in with my next release (which will be very soon). Can you run the two systems together?
