An Oldie but Goodie.

There are some games that never get old, they may become outdated sure, but they always seem to retain their fun playability. A good example of this (at least for me) is Blizzard’s WarCraft III. Not World of WarCraft, but the circa 2002 WarCraft III, a true fast paced real-time strategy that despite it’s limited number of character classes (or in WCIII I guess they would be simply called ‘races’) when compared to WoW.

The thing with WarCraft is there is a certain amount of real skill involved, it’s not just about building up your village and attacking the opponent like many of the other games in the genre. You build up every aspect of your army and its defenses. The directions you could go with your little computer society is almost endless. I mean I’ve been playing the game for years and there are still different magic spells, potions, upgrades even ‘troops’ that I have yet to fully utilize.

Just recently I purchased the complete WarCraft III Battlechest which includes the expansion and a set of detailed books on some of the more advanced gameplay. A friend and I have been playing over a Hamachi VPN connection these past couple weeks and some of the battles we get into are intense, it’s hard to stop playing.

So my question to you, the reader - What classic games do you still enjoy?
