January means the CES.

It’s January again which means starting next week the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada will be in full swing.

Over the years CES has definitely become the major technology trade show, I’ve been keeping up with their official blog “straight talk” and 2008 is going to be a big year. As always they will feature vendors and products from computer hardware, networking, wireless, gaming, high performance audio, in-vehicle technology, the list is endless. I’ve always wanted to fly down to Vegas one year and attend, ever since the days that I’d be glued to the television when TechTV would have the live coverage and they would show off all of the bleeding edge, soon-to-be released technology along with the keynotes and everything. I won’t be going this year, but I’d like to make the trip sometime soon.

There are literately countless technology blogs and websites that feature some form of CES coverage, but the one that has become popular over the last couple years and to me has become the sole source of everything CES has to be Engadget. Engadget has put together an impressive, dedicated portion of their blog (found at ces.engadget.com) just for CES coverage. They will feature everything from initial reviews on the new products to video clips of the keynotes and guest speakers and if it’s set up like last year they will have a daily podcast with all of the highlights. I also heard that G4 will have some sort of coverage this year, but I’m honestly not expecting much outside of gaming and home entertainment.

This definitely shouldn’t be a source for CES news, but I’m going to try my best to keep up with the announcements and product developments this year. I may even post some of my own thoughts on some of the new gizmos and toys slated to hit the market.

Argh… I wish I were older, so I could take the plan and attend the damned thing at least once. It’s like, geekgasm!
