Apple iPod Touch – An Epic Product Review

Well maybe not epic, but if your looking to learn a little more about the wireless/web browsing capabilities of the Apple iPod Touch you have come to the right place.
I received the 8GB Apple iPod Touch to review this month and I gave myself a week or so to get used to the interface and learn about some of the features and options it has to offer. I wanted this product review to stand out from the others that I’ve done in the past so for the first time ever I created a short video showing some of the wireless browsing and multimedia functions the iPod touch has become famous for.

Who wants to see another product review with some guy sitting at a desk somewhere? Boring and overrated right? This afternoon I hopped into my mini-van with my new iPod Touch and digital camera in hand. I figured that it wouldn’t hurt to get out of the house for a while.
So what have we learned from the video? Well, the Safari browser and wireless capabilities on the Touch totally rock the casbah and according to an out-of-state friend I have a very “Minnesotan” accent. But I’m not done just yet.
Some other things I wanted to mention about this beautiful piece of Apple hardware was the durability of the unit. As you may have noticed in the video I have the iPod encased in a clear plastic Griffin iClear case that I purchased shortly after receiving the iPod. I noticed that the chrome backing is very easily scratched. However, from what I’ve seen so far the screen itself is nearly bulletproof. I believe the surface is made of some sort of glass just like the iPhone and there are plenty of videos floating around the internet of people taking pins, keys, and razor blades to the touch screen and they simply don’t leave a mark. Very Cool.

The iPod Touch is surprisingly small and thin, even with the plastic case it’s about the same size as my Motorola Q and it can easily be slipped into a pocket. Despite its small size the unit feels very solid, like I could drop it and it wouldn’t shatter… Actually it was dropped onto a hard floor shortly after I received it, it didn’t shatter.

The iPod Touch came with the typical accessories you would expect such as the sync cable, apple ear buds, and a little plastic deal that acts as a stand for viewing videos etc. In addition to the case I bought a wall-outlet power adapter that utilizes the sync cable. I found that I won’t always have the iPod around a computer to charge via the USB.
This review may have only been focused on what’s important to me such as the browsing and mobility features but the iPod Touch really does offer a ton of great multimedia functions such as cover flow, the integrated iTunes music store and countless others that I can’t even begin to show off here.
On that note, if you’re interested in picking up an iPod Touch for yourself or as a gift for someone this holiday season and you want to learn more about what this gadget is packing — Apple has an awesome guided tour of the iPod Touch on their website that shows off some of the other features. Take a look.

[...] Other Gadgets - Where would a geek be without his gadgets?! My best friend for day-to-day business is my Motorola MOTO Q Smartphone. The phone has all of the basic PDA functions I need, it syncs with my Outlook which is important and I’m still overall fairly pleased with the device. I also have an Apple iPod Touch that I won by being a finalist in a PayPerPost Blog Battle Royale competition (here’s the winning entry). I don’t use the iPod nearly as much as I could but it’s a neat little device, check out my embarrassing video review here. [...]
