The Goose is getting fat.
Over the last few years it has seemed like Thanksgiving is just completely overridden by the ever growing Holiday season. I mean it’s pretty crazy when there’s an equal amount of Christmas things put out when the Halloween stuff is on the shelves. Maybe it has always been that way but that’s not how I remember it.
Don’t get the wrong impression though, I’m really not complaining. I love Christmas. Also, I don’t mind the modern commercialization of the season. To me, Christmas can be about whatever one’s family wants it to be about. Jesus’ Birthday? Awesome. Gift Giving day? Right on.
Personally, Christmas is the only time of the year to spend real, undivided time and attention with your loved ones. You sit around, get fat off Christmas Eve snacks, watch movies, and just generally hang out with one another. Then comes Christmas morning, when you start opening the massive mound of presents as early as possible. But as you’re doing it, you sit back and enjoy everyone’s face light up as they get something they have really wanted.
My family has always been that way too. As far back as I can remember, before Christmas was turned into a major profit point for the retail economy. We have always made Christmas huge, it has always taken place at my Grandparents house, and Christmas Eve has always been about eating mini hot dogs and meatballs, cookies and holiday bread… It’s a tradition that has never changed.
Speaking of the Holidays, Dream in Code is doing it’s now annual DIC Secret Satans, Where established community members are paired up and they give and get gifts. Just like Secret Santa in the 4th grade! So tonight I took some time and updated my Amazon Wish List a little, I’ll add more… realistic items soon. But there’s a couple things on there I wouldn’t mind having. If you have a wish list somewhere, feel free to send me a link to it.
