Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 11/23/06 at 06:11:14 pmI came across an away message that said to refrain from calling today ‘Turkey Day’, so I did this post’s title all fancy like.
My Thanksgiving went over well, I had the chance to spend the day with my family and such, I don’t get to do that too often anymore it seems. I ate food, watched the sporting events on television, I think they call it “Foot Ball”, but I could be mistaken.
I’m now back in my office, stuffed with bird, basking in the soft glow of the LCDs, typing up a post about my last few hours up to the point of me typing about what I’m currently typing…
Anyway, speaking of offices, it’s a bummer that I have to go back into work tomorrow; I had to fight just to get the morning off for Black Friday. I’ll be at Best Buy bright and early at around 3:00am to take advantage of the insane deals. I plan to get a good portion of my Christmas shopping started along with a couple little gifts for myself. I’m actually getting quite a few items that I know will be of limited supply, so I want to be one of the first in line when the doors open at 5:00am.
I can’t decide if I want to attempt to go to bed really early, like right about now… Or I could just not go to bed at all. To me little sleep is far worse then no sleep; I have problems getting up with the normal 7 ½ hours I normally get as it is. I have to figure something out though; the grouping of stores I want to visit is about an hour away, which means I’ll have to be up at like 2.
At least it will only be like a half day tomorrow, then another 2 days to get some R&R. That’s really what I want to do this weekend, nothing at all. I’ve been real busy lately and sadly I’m starting to miss out on the simple joy of watching a movie, or calling a friend back in reference to a voice mail message that was left days ago, for that matter. Sorry guys, I’ll drop a line soon…
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!!
Sellin’ Some Stuff
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 11/16/06 at 03:11:38 pmI put my Samsung SPH-i500 Palm PDA / Sprint cell phone on eBay this week. There are only a few days left in the auction, and I’m hoping to get more then what it’s selling for right now. It has been a great phone, I’ve only had it for a few months and I would still be using it if I hadn’t switched to Nextel. If you’re interested check out the auction by Clicking Here.

The Goose is getting fat.
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 11/09/06 at 09:11:26 pmOver the last few years it has seemed like Thanksgiving is just completely overridden by the ever growing Holiday season. I mean it’s pretty crazy when there’s an equal amount of Christmas things put out when the Halloween stuff is on the shelves. Maybe it has always been that way but that’s not how I remember it.
Don’t get the wrong impression though, I’m really not complaining. I love Christmas. Also, I don’t mind the modern commercialization of the season. To me, Christmas can be about whatever one’s family wants it to be about. Jesus’ Birthday? Awesome. Gift Giving day? Right on.
Personally, Christmas is the only time of the year to spend real, undivided time and attention with your loved ones. You sit around, get fat off Christmas Eve snacks, watch movies, and just generally hang out with one another. Then comes Christmas morning, when you start opening the massive mound of presents as early as possible. But as you’re doing it, you sit back and enjoy everyone’s face light up as they get something they have really wanted.
My family has always been that way too. As far back as I can remember, before Christmas was turned into a major profit point for the retail economy. We have always made Christmas huge, it has always taken place at my Grandparents house, and Christmas Eve has always been about eating mini hot dogs and meatballs, cookies and holiday bread… It’s a tradition that has never changed.
Speaking of the Holidays, Dream in Code is doing it’s now annual DIC Secret Satans, Where established community members are paired up and they give and get gifts. Just like Secret Santa in the 4th grade! So tonight I took some time and updated my Amazon Wish List a little, I’ll add more… realistic items soon. But there’s a couple things on there I wouldn’t mind having. If you have a wish list somewhere, feel free to send me a link to it.

Sick Sisters and Ethnic Food
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 11/06/06 at 07:11:42 pmI spent my Sunday at Childrens Hospital of Minnesota – Minneapolis. My sister has been having some stomach related issues for a while now, and over the weekend they have gotten worse. The local hospital recommended that we bring her to the Children’s Hospital in the cities so we made a trip down there. The good news is that it sounds like they figured out what’s going on with her right away, and she should be fine. It’s scary however, seeing her go through so much pain and agony like that.
It’s a nice hospital, the doctors there are very efficient and know what their doing, she was in and being tested and treated very quickly. The Children’s Hospital is a pretty big place and the hospital next door; Abbott Northwestern is one of the top in the Midwest. It was nice to get a more… Professional opinion. This also gave me a chance to visit the big city, which I don’t get to do very often anymore. The buildings are tightly connected together in South side of Minneapolis and are right next door (well more like 4 blocks) to the Midtown Exchange building. If you are a long time reader you would recall that name. When I worked for Twin City Security that was a major contract, and I’ve served a lot of time working in that building during its restoration last year.
While I was down there waiting for the results of Katrein’s testing I went to the Global Market in the Midtown building. If you are ever passing through South Minneapolis I highly recommend checking this place out. It’s basically a giant medley of various restaurants, shops, farmers markets, and Café’s. They have just about every region of both staple and specialty foods there. Live music, salsa dance classes, arts, crafts… it’s crazy. I didn’t stay for long; I may go down there again soon.
Anyways, like I mentioned Kate should be just fine after a couple weeks, so that’s a relief.
Nextel
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 11/06/06 at 03:11:16 pmI spent the better part of Saturday afternoon at the Sprint Store. I decided to go ahead and switch to Nextel for my personal cellular phone provider. I made a couple sacrifices by switching over, iDEN is far from a high speed data service when compared to EDGE or Vision for that matter, but I never use mobile internet anymore anyways. It’s hard too not find a hotspot these days.
I picked up a Motorola i850, it’s a fairly basic camera phone but it’s sleek and easy to use. The nationwide walkie-talkie features with this service really are amazing. I think I made a good choice switching over. I ported my number to the new service so that hasn’t changed however my new Nextel Direct Connect number is 104*21*18486 this will be added to the ‘Contact’ page.
Parties, Skunks, and TPS Reports.
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 11/01/06 at 02:11:41 pmIt has been a struggle to stay caught up with everything lately. I only get a few short hours of free time every night and the last thing I want to do is sit in front of a computer screen after being on a computer for 9 hours at work. We have just an endless array of projects going down too so I’m starting to take work or at least time consuming brainstorm sessions about work, home with me. I’m not complaining however, I still have yet to submit a real complaint about this place… It almost seems like I’ve made a bet with myself about work related complaints, I won’t let myself win… or lose… wait…
Anyway, when I’m not speeding to get to work in the morning (I’m always late) or speeding back home in the evening (I must maximize my free time; every minute spent driving is wasted!) I’ve been busy with various social functions, cleaning, catching up on things or some other project that doesn’t involve me lying in bed in front of my TV and/or laptop.
It isn’t all bad though. Last night I attended an open house / Halloween party at a new home in which a couple good friends just had built (the same friends that were just married a couple months back). They had a live band and everything so it was good times. Unfortunately I couldn’t stay real long… Who has a party on a Tuesday??
On the way into this party I drilled a skunk… again. This is the 2nd time in the last 6 months or so that I have hit a skunk head on and my vehicle is ensconced in its deathly odor. Unlike last time where I hit a dead one on the freeway, this time I murdered the rodent at a cool 70Mph. At least it was painless.
I think that covers everything in the title?! Back to work ![]()
