I Can’t Sit Down

It seems I’ve been somewhat distant from my beloved weblog lately. The reason could be that I’ve been so busy with work and such or due to the fact that there just isn’t much going on outside the daily grind that’s worth rambling on about.

I have been busy with work, there’s lots of projects and things going on there and I sit in a uncomfortable task chair all day that by the time I come home I just don’t want to be in front of a computer screen anymore. It actually hurts to sit down in my chair; it’s turning into a chronic pain that isn’t healing itself overnight, so I definitely need to look into doing something about that.

In other news, I managed to receive my new phone earlier this week. So far I’ve been real happy with it too. It seems to offer the perfect balance of Telephone and PDA that I was seeking in a convergence device. The two sides blend well without getting in each other’s way. Also this thing is small; I was surprised to see that it’s really no larger then a standard multimedia enabled cell phone. I will miss some of the features my G1000 offered, namely the full QWERTY keyboard and the camera in which the compact Samsung i500 lacks, however I won’t miss the ridiculous size of the Hitachi.

I think that’s all I have for now, Check back soon for a post about a new project I may be working on. I’ll post more details about what’s to come once I know myself.

Windows Vista Beta 2 open to the public

Ars Technica -
Microsoft has officially launched its Windows Vista Beta 2 Customer Preview Program. The program finally makes Beta 2 available to the general public, and it will be used in the future for release candidates as well.

I had the chance to download it today and I’m currently installing it as a Virtual Machine. This is a big move on Microsoft’s part and the demand is huge, so if your interested get it while you can.

New Mobile

I think I’m turning into one of those guys that gets a new cell phone every month. I just purchased that Hitachi G1000 PocketPC phone off eBay a few months back, its really nice and everything but its definitely more then a PDA then a phone. Also the thing is kind of huge; carrying it in my pocket is almost not an option unless I want to look like I have a bomb jammed down my pants. I thought that’s what I was looking for when I went to buy a convergence device but it seems like it offers too much, too many things getting in the way and it drives me away from using it as a phone.

I’m hoping this new Samsung SPH-i500 I just ordered will change that, I’m going for a convergence device that will feel more like a mobile phone with PDA features then a laptop in my pocket that happens to make calls. It’s going to be a downgrade from the G1000, it doesn’t offer a camera or a speakerphone but I think the striped down features may be a good thing when it comes to usability.

The major change however from my current G1000 to the Samsung is the OS. I haven’t owned a Palm powered PDA since my Handspring back in the day. I’ve been a PocketPC guy for a long time now and I’m used to what it has to offer. The Palm OS is nice but it’s definitely more basic, again for a phone this may be a good thing, when you’re trying to talk to someone having all kinds of applications and things popping up can be a pain.

Like the G1000 I ordered this thing off eBay, It should be here this week yet so maybe I’ll have a preliminary review going by the weekend and I’ll ramble on about more details once I confirm them.
