Independence Day Weekend
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 06/29/06 at 03:06:13 pmI’m really looking forward to the upcoming 4-day weekend. It almost turned into 5 days however in order to be eligible for holiday pay for Tuesday I’ll need to come in for a grueling 2 hour shift tomorrow. It’s fun to work the system.
The half-day tomorrow will allow me to jet over to ARCC and pick up the necessary paperwork I need to fill out for class this fall. However when it comes to the rest of the weekend, I really don’t have any big plans as of yet. I’ll likely spend most of it at home. There’s nothing wrong with getting some R&R but I would like to go out and do something, maybe I’ll make a trip to the metro or hit the casino for a while.
The family and I will likely venture out to see a fireworks display on the 4th. Last year I went to the show in Minneapolis at the Riverfront Dist. The show was great however it would have been more amazing if it weren’t so short. I hear good things about the display in the city my work is located so maybe we will go there, or should I say here since I’m currently at work…
Anyway expect fireworks photos from wherever I decide to go, and I’m sure I’ll have more to blog about this weekend, until then.
Resident Slacker
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 06/27/06 at 03:06:12 pmI decided to take a Sick Day from work yesterday. With the Wedding and everything going on this past weekend I didn’t get a whole lot of time to get caught up with things at home. Also it helps that I really wasn’t feeling well.
The wedding went real well, it had a great turnout, the weather was perfect, and the reception was crazy fun. I got a ton of pictures and video mainly from the reception. I plan to make a DVD for the newlyweds that will feature some of the video clips and maybe a slideshow of the pictures or something, it should be nice when it’s done. I went through 3 sets of batteries with my camera from all of the use so I’ll definitely have plenty of material to work with when I start the project.
On another note, I noticed that when I changed the layout here I forgot to include the search box on the sidebar. I’m not really sure how that detail was overlooked… For those few readers who actually use the search function I should have it fixed in the next couple days.
Why Not Subscribe?
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 06/24/06 at 01:06:07 pmI’m not sure how many returning readers I actually get on here. Most of the content I post could definitely be seen as less then interesting. However if you do read my ramblings on a regular basis and you just so happen to subscribe to various blogs and news content I may have some good news. I have made it even easier to subscribe to this weblog.
As you can see there’s a brand new set of buttons on the right side, which are dedicated to the task of subscribing to this website. All you do is find which reader that your using (I’m a Google person myself) and you click on the button and BAM!
Change of Design
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 06/22/06 at 09:06:43 pmSo the army green finally got a little old. I’ve been planning a new design concept for a little while now I was just unsure of the direction I wanted to go in. If you have noticed over the last couple days I’ve been playing with ideas and the layout has actually changed a few times. I think I landed on something I like.
This layout is definitely sleek and simple which is what I dig. Also it features a lot of the colors, fonts, and little do-hickeys I’m into. The only thing I’m not looking forward to with this layout is when I get that itch to change something. It’s not like I can whip up a new Masthead and completely change the look.
I’m happy with how this version turned out though, I think I’ll keep it around for a while… Maybe.
Wet Clothes and Weddings
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 06/21/06 at 12:06:53 pmThere’s nothing like the feeling of wet clothes straight from the dryer. Especially because they have been drying for days and yet their still damp and their starting to get that fresh mildew scent going on… Something tells me the machine isn’t functioning as well as it should.
On another note, this weekend a couple good friends of mine are getting hitched. It’s going to be pretty crazy to see that. I’ve only been to 3 weddings in my day, 2 of which I played an active role in so I don’t have a lot of experience of being a guest, also this will be the first wedding I’m attending by myself so it should be interesting. I plan to go shopping for a gift after work today, I’m not real sure on what I’m getting just yet or how the whole gift registry deal works but I think I’ll manage, hopefully.
MySpace sued in wake of sexual assault
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 06/20/06 at 07:06:37 pmArs Technica -
A Texas 14-year-old and her mother have sued MySpace for US$30 million after she was raped by a man she met on the social networking site. Pete Solis, who faces felony sexual assault charges, courted the girl via her MySpace profile.
I thought I would throw this up here after my personal review on this great community that’s serving the nation’s youth so well.

Trendspace Lives On
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 06/18/06 at 08:06:40 pmBelieve it or not I get a handful of people asking me every week if I have a MySpace profile. The site has become so popular that if you don’t have a page on there you simply aren’t among the living.
My dislike for the community isn’t due to the concept behind the site, because I have to admit it’s a good idea. It’s the people who thrive on it. It’s like being in High School all over again with the immaturity and the people and their classifications they give themselves or “Clicks” as they were called. They live in their manifested existence because it’s popular not because of their personal beliefs and or creativity. Also the names for these classifications are always derived from some genre of music, how can you BE a type of music?
Maybe I don’t understand because I have a job and a life and I don’t use my time in a mission of trying to be like the next person. But that’s not the point of this post; the point is that no matter how hard you try to avoid certain things in life, if you do succeed in staying away, you’re reminded of it. In this case the non-stop explanation of why I don’t have an up to date profile on MySpace rather then just giving in and flipping a URL.
If you can’t beat them join them, Right?
I spent some time today customizing the page to my liking and updating the information. Click here to view my MySpace Profile.
Bill Gates to step aside in 2008
Posted by Markus Langenfeld - 06/15/06 at 08:06:57 pmArs Technica -
In a surprise announcement, Microsoft revealed that cofounder, Chairman, and former CEO Bill Gates will be giving up his day-to-day duties at Microsoft. Gates is relinquishing his title of Chief Software Architect now, but will continue to be involved in the company’s operations on a daily basis until July 2008.
I knew the guy had to quit someday, he’s definitely adding a new definition to ‘Early Retirement’. If you’re interested to see where the other key players at Microsoft are moving this article is worth a read.
