The Big News

I didn’t want to announce anything until I was sure that it was all set in stone. I’m always concerned about the wrong people stumbling across this website, in this case it would be my employer or should I say ex-employer

As of May 1st I will officially be starting my technology career as an IT Administrator for a firm based out of Forest Lake, MN. Not only is the new job close to home, but it’s going to offer solid pay, ideal hours, and options for benefits soon after I start. Also it sounds like I’ll be getting my own office! it’s almost too good to be true.

The only thing I’m not looking forward to is enduring 3 more weeks at my current job, at the rate of speed time seems to move by at that place it might as well be a year. But I’ll stop my whining and muster through the rest of the month.

Other then the new job there isn’t a whole lot going on. I was supposed to play paint ball with some friends at a field in WI tomorrow afternoon. But after finally digging up my gun I find that the CO2 line is damaged ensuring a healthy air leak during game play. So I don’t think I’ll be going.

The title of this post is actually my new SSID for my wireless network. I had my notebook setup in the van most of the day yesterday and I have my GPS in there. So I decided the approximate coordinates of the network would be a clever name.

So far the weekend has gone by fairly quick. Yesterday I hung out with the family, it was my mother’s birthday recently and we ended up having dinner somewheres. I also spent the later part of the day messing with my van. I like to clean it on the weekends and get everything tuned up for the week ahead, I put about 600+ miles on every week due to the long drive to work so it needs to be maintained well. I took some pictures of the green machine, if you’re interested they can be found in the gallery or by clicking Here.

Anyway, I think I’m going to take it easy for the rest of the day. For some reason I have a splitting headache, which means I shouldn’t be sitting in front of a monitor.

PayPal Mobile goes live

Ars Technica -
PayPal Mobile has launched. For those who didn’t read about the testing process, PayPal Mobile is a new service whereby you can use your cell phone to make PayPal payments to virtually anyone with a phone number, as well as purchase anything you see bearing a PayPal “Text to Buy” label.

This is a great article on the new service, with all of the spoofing and such that can be done with cell phones… Even with the pin feature and whatnot, I don’t know about this.

Somebody has a case of the Mondays

Yesterday I definitely had a case of the ‘Mondays’. In fact it was so bad I decided to take the day off in hopes to catch things up and home and such. I didn’t get a lot done but it was nice to get some of my weekend back. I had to work Saturday and I spent the entire day Sunday out and about so I didn’t have a lot of time at home.

I’m going to work on updating some things around the site this week. Some of the links on the right will be changed or updated and I’ll try to add some photos to the gallery. If you have any suggestions for anything pertaining to the site, drop me a line by using the listed contact information.

AT&T: 15 Mbps Internet connection

Ars Technica -
At this week’s Media, Entertainment and Telecommunications conference, AT&T COO Randall Stephenson told his listeners that increased bandwidth was no longer of great importance to consumers.

“In the foreseeable future, having a 15 Mbps Internet capability is irrelevant because the backbone doesn’t transport at those speeds,” he told the conference attendees. Stephenson said that AT&T’s field tests have shown “no discernable difference” between AT&T’s 1.5 Mbps service and Comcast’s 6 Mbps because the problem is not in the last mile but in the backbone…

This was a good article, At&t does have a valid point when it comes to certain aspects of the internet, how fast is fast enough?
