Movie Review: SAW II

October 29th, 2005 by Markus Langenfeld

Last night I had the chance to see Saw II on opening night at the local cinema. It ended up being a sold out show with nearly 150 people per theater. A lot of people jammed in such a small space…

I have to say right off the bat that it was an awesome movie. It’s hard to compare Saw II with the first Saw, I didn’t expect them to top the original but they did a great job. I don’t want to give too much away for those of you who may be reading this and haven’t seen it but, I may anyway. The whole group aspect they brought in really worked well with the movie, the way the people interacted with each other and the different characters; it was like you would root for some and detest certain others.

The whole ‘point’ of the story really comes out, and even know I like that it was explained, it seems that the artistic feel of the movie is smashed in the sequel. Although that was almost expected, the same thing happens with so many others such as ‘The Blair Witch Project’. Saw II didn’t seem to have as much gore as the first, even know many times gore can really act as just a filler for good content, I felt Saw did a good job with it, weather it be the blood or nasty liquids and the nasty-ness of the room they were in, it didn’t seem the sequel matched that.

The ending of the movie was my favorite part, it could possibly be one of the best twists I’ve ever seen, they did a wicked good job on the execution and it was an original concept. I didn’t like the fact that they left another cliffhanger ending, now there’s going to be whispers of a Saw III, I really think they should quit while their ahead.
