Movie Review: SAW II

Last night I had the chance to see Saw II on opening night at the local cinema. It ended up being a sold out show with nearly 150 people per theater. A lot of people jammed in such a small space…

I have to say right off the bat that it was an awesome movie. It’s hard to compare Saw II with the first Saw, I didn’t expect them to top the original but they did a great job. I don’t want to give too much away for those of you who may be reading this and haven’t seen it but, I may anyway. The whole group aspect they brought in really worked well with the movie, the way the people interacted with each other and the different characters; it was like you would root for some and detest certain others.

The whole ‘point’ of the story really comes out, and even know I like that it was explained, it seems that the artistic feel of the movie is smashed in the sequel. Although that was almost expected, the same thing happens with so many others such as ‘The Blair Witch Project’. Saw II didn’t seem to have as much gore as the first, even know many times gore can really act as just a filler for good content, I felt Saw did a good job with it, weather it be the blood or nasty liquids and the nasty-ness of the room they were in, it didn’t seem the sequel matched that.

The ending of the movie was my favorite part, it could possibly be one of the best twists I’ve ever seen, they did a wicked good job on the execution and it was an original concept. I didn’t like the fact that they left another cliffhanger ending, now there’s going to be whispers of a Saw III, I really think they should quit while their ahead.

X-Ray Cat Sees through wooden doors

Tonight I will be going to see Saw II at the multiplex, I haven’t wrote a review for a movie in a while so definitely count on one to be posted here. I’m not sure if I’ll have one going tonight because I have to work at 5:00am tomorrow morning, I’m really not looking forward to that… However on a good note, after I get a hair cut today I’m going to apply for a Sales Rep. job at Dennis Kirk. They are hiring for 2nd shift which is perfect and the pay isn’t bad but the best part is their massive warehouse/showroom/office is less then a mile away. Wish me luck!

He’s Back..

Well sort of anyway. I developed an out of the box solution to tide me over until my internet is installed next Friday. I stopped by a Radio Shack and picked up a Data Cable for my Samsung VI660 mobile phone. This cable, along with some drivers I found online and some minor configuration allows me to use Sprint’s high speed data network on my notebook computer. The thought of having mobile internet anywhere I go still blows my mind, its going to come in really handy for when I’m bored at work like right now or at home in the next couple weeks until I get a permanent solution going. So far it seems to be working real well, im very impressed with the speeds and reliability of the connection.

Where’s Marko ?

I didn’t want to spend time retyping a post so I’m going to paste the following from a thread on Dream.In.Code.

It’s likely no one has noticed my absence yet because I’ve only been gone for a day, but you may see it more in the coming week, here’s why…

Some of you may know I have been “Borrowing” my neighbor’s (car dealership next to my house) open access point as my primary means of internet. Well.. I come home from work yesterday to find that my neighbor has decided to get some smarts and encrypt his network with not just basic WEP encryption, but 128 bit WPA encryption. One of my special areas of knowledge is network security and I knew right away I was screwed. This kind of security on a low traffic network is nearly impossible to crack.

Some people have asked why I would depend on something like this; why not get a high speed connection of my own?

I live in a small town in northern MN; there is no conventional high speed solutions out here. In fact the only internet options I have are DirecWay satellite, and a local company called Genesis Wireless.

Genesis is a WIFI hybrid based ISP, they put up non line of sight towers around the town and using their modified WIFI hardware you’re able to connect to their network. The problem with Genesis Wireless is that their prices are horrible and their uptime is even worse. I know this first hand because the neighbor has them. So choice number 1 is Genesis, they want 149.00 down for install and 50 a month for 200 kbps down 56 kbps up speeds.

DirecWay is faster but more money. If you get a good install they can be somewhat reliable.. I think. Their speeds are more like 500kbps down and 56 kbps up, they have a weird Fair Access Policy so if you try to download more then 200 MB at a time, they will cut you off for a few hours. Also with the satellite latency you can’t play online games. DirecWay wants $ 100.00 down and $ 100.00 a month and you get tied into a 2 year contract.. So that’s option number 2..

Week in review…

I’ve had the last few days off; it’s given me time to get a few things done. The main reason I took time off is to visit my grandpa, he has been in the hospital all week due to an aggressive case of walking ammonia. The reason he was admitted to the hospital is because for some reason, the medication he has been given is not doing anything for him, so they are now questioning their original diagnosis.

Other then that not a whole lot going on, that is until yesterday.. I was down at a retail store near the cities and as I came back out to my van in the parking lot I noticed a note on my windshield. On the note it read ‘Hack the world!’ and under it listed the person’s AIM screename. I got a chance to talk to him last night and I have to say, he knows his fair share of devious information. It was really interesting to talk to someone with the same interests that I have, and to get a note out of the blue like that, it was really cool.

That’s all I have for now, I’ll have another post going later today with some photo updates so check back for that, in the meantime take a look at this hilarious article that gives just about every innocent piece of technology a bad rep.
